Wow. This blog has been pretty much neglected. Yes, we are still alive and yes we still exist. I could offer up a good deal of very legitimate excuses reasons but I will spare you the drama. This year is already proving to be a pivotal year in my personal life as well as in regards to the studio and the direction that it will go as we move forward. The business, artist and studio in general will remain the same so rest assured! Over the next few months new life will be breathed into the internet presence of the business. Very exciting, but very time consuming as well so please be patient. Being a perfectionist means that it often takes me longer to complete projects and tasks, but the final result yields a product that I am more than thrilled about.
Also coming this year are a few new products and options to the J.Passon product line...as well as new tools to help you decorate your home with art! Also, if you didn't catch it in the studio newsletter that went out last month...There will be no price increases this year.
During these bitter cold months, a great deal of my office hours will be spent working behind the scenes. First up will be a brand new *bigger* and *better* custom blog...yippee! The next few weeks will pretty much be silent on this blog as I work on designing and setting up the new one. Keep your eyes out for an email announcement when it is up and running...you won't want to miss it.
While I have your attention...how about a little peek at a reminder of how fast those little babies grow. The first image of Baby B is from her newborn session last July and the other two are from her most recent "sitting" session about a week ago. I love my job!
Wouldn't you know that just as I was about to post the second half of "Christmas" as well as get together some other posts showing off gorgeous client products...my main computer decided to breathe it's last breath. It must have known that there is a new computer out waiting in the wings. It looks like Christmas will be hanging around until the end of January (at least on this blog!). The studio office will be closed until January 24th which is also when the new computer will up and running. Posts between now and January 24th will be few and far between.
There are many new things in store for this coming year. I have learned not to make promises as to when they will actually happen as it seems my plans for timing never work out! Just a few items on the docket are a brand new (and bigger!) blog, completely new and updated website and a few new product offerings. Oh and all session fees and product pricing will remain the same as last year!
Happy New Year!
With orders pouring in I thought it was a good time to show off the gorgeous portrait ornaments that are available for purchase. These were introduced last year and were a big hit with clients.
They are gorgeous! The simple design with elegant ribbon allow your image to demand attention. They come included with a gift box which make it easy to give as a gift. Not only for the tree, these are great around a bottle of wine (gift idea!) or hanging on a ornamental hook on your wall. After the holidays are over, you don't have to feel the need to pack it away with other ornaments, hang it somewhere you can enjoy all year long. The first two images below are the ones I ordered of each of my girls. This year I can't decide to get one of each girl or one of them together...I just might have to order three ornaments!
To place your order, just contact the studio!
If you are looking for a child or family session this year, there are just a few sessions left before the bitter cold and holidays arrive. Please check the studio calendar for available dates. If you are available on a weekday but do not see any session openings, please contact the studio as we may be able to accommodate a weekday afternoon session. We will continue to book newborn sessions for the rest of 2010 and beginning of 2011.
While I am here I just have to show some recent pics of our little huge October baby. Upon returning home from a late afternoon session I saw my little chunker outside in the jumper. With my camera right there and handy I stripped her down, put a quick headband from Addison Saige Designs on her head and stuck her in a bucket and called in the troops (daddy and big sister) for entertainment. Our "session" lasted all of 15 minutes before she was happily crawling naked through the dirt and brush. Enjoy...
In a few hours I will be getting on a plane. Yes. Again. For the 5th time in 6 months I will be flying in the sky, but this time I'm doing it alone! For the first time in over a year my carry on luggage will not include baby wipes, goldfish crackers, or a book about Elmo. Instead I get to bring my laptop, a few magazines, a novel and maybe even real food! Though I am crazy to be going on a trip just a week after we started moving into our new place, I am thrilled to be meeting up with my photography friend Gina for a weekend of talking shop and sessions. The office will be closed until Tuesday, August 24th. I will have access to email while I am away, though it may take me an extra day or two for replying.
And...because I just need to post a picture of something with all of this boring text, here is my oldest from a mini session we did this morning at our new place. Several clients have been dying to see our grounds and though they need a TON of landscaping work it is a great piece of property and I will be posting some more pics next week from this little session. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
You may remember a couple of months ago I posted about winning in a contest at one of my professional labs. That particular image was one of the winners in the black and white category. After 4 months of competition, all of the winners were up against each other for the top spot and then the top spots in each category. I was blown away to receive an honorable mention for the image below that I titled "12 lbs." After I placed in the first round I gave the parents of these adorable twins an 11x14 print as a thank you for giving me such adorable subjects to photograph. I must give props to two amazing newborn photographers who definitely gave me the inspiration for the image. The work of the Baby as Art team is astonishing and often renders a photographer speechless--needless to say they keep me inspired!

of it all. Little time before vacation left the blog in a desperate state while I was gone. Apologies!! Now back and slammed with sessions and getting ready to move. I took a moment the other night to cut some flowers off of a hydrangea bush that we planted shortly after moving into our house 6 years ago. Good thing I have lots of wonderful clients and sessions to keep me distracted from the sadness of moving on to another house. Many things going on, so stay tuned for a few lots and lots of sneak peeks coming soon.
If your budget, wall space, or desire to redecorate with future prints limits your ability to order large prints, use these tips to make that 11x14 or 8x10 a WOW statement on the wall.
- Skip custom framing for smaller prints or images that you may want to change later on. There are a few select pieces that will warrant the expense of custom framing--those images you want to display forever. In that case, a wall display of gallery wrap canvases may even be a better option!
- Choose a thick mat, 2-3 inches wide, in a color that will coordinate with your print and the room where it will be displayed. If you do not use a mat then be sure to use a frame that is at least 3 inches wide.
- In addition to a thick mat, choose a thick frame to give the overall piece a presence, especially if you are displaying it alone on the wall, mantle, etc.
- Do your own "custom framing" to get the exact look you want and still be able to update the picture in the future if needed.
The images below are what my hubby received as a Father's Day gift (who would have thought!?! Pictures from his photographer-wife!). In addition to the mounted 11x14 print I also purchased the following from a craft store: open back frame, thick off-white mat, glass/frame kit, and glazier points. Essentially doing a custom frame job myself I was able to create a piece of art that will go perfectly in his office. Though you can't tell in the images, it is quite heavy and large, measuring around 20x24 finished. I even purchased the same exact 11x14 print for our own home, only I will use a different mat and frame so that it matches our decor.
Our visit to the beach this weekend made me feel that summer has officially arrived...that and the lobster sunburn I came home with! Stay on top of the blog posts as there are a lot of sneak peeks coming. If you are on the client newsletter list you will be receiving a copy of the latest newsletter any day now. Summer and fall sessions are filing up quickly! Enjoy the beautiful day...
