As much as I try to keep my personal posts few and far between, I can't help but post today. You see...yesterday was sort of a "holiday" as it was my birthday. And well, I guess you can say it is a big one. I'll give you a hint, it starts with a "3" and ends with a "0". Earlier this year I told my husband to not worry about planning any sort of party. I know all too well that a December birthday is often interrupted by the weather or everyone's busy holiday plans.
So, did he listen? Of course not, and I am so thankful! For the past several months he has secretly been planning a fabulous party. That is no small feat around me! I usually pick up on everything and it is very hard to surprise me. He did a great job though and though I knew he was up to something, I had no idea when, where or what. Unfortunately the first big snow storm of the season had to land on the same weekend as the party. The original party date was this past Friday, but after hearing the final forecast of 6-13 inches of snow he was forced to post-pone the party until the next evening. This meant that about half of the party-goers were not able to attend due to previous plans and also the weather. Despite that, the party was fabulous and my heart is overwhelmed with gratitude. Oh, and did I mention that while he was secretly doing all of this on Saturday my friend and I were getting a massage and manicure? He had it all planned out and had her take me out for a "girl's day". He is pretty wonderful!

People often tell me that I am creative...you don't know creative until you have met my husband! He had three designated rooms in our house for the wine tasting party: The White Room, The Red Room, and The Sparkling Room. Each room was decorated with the appropriate balloon and flower color, as well as appropriate food for that type of wine and of course lots of wine! Upon entering the house, the guests created their own ring marker for their wine glass out of wire and beads, and they received a wine tasting kit which gave them all of the info needed to taste the variety of wines.
The food was wonderful! Delicious cheeses, meats, shrimp, veggies, dip, specialty breads, cookies, chocolate cake and cheesecake with all the toppings--just to name a few!
I am still overwhelmed with all of the planning and decorating that he did. He is amazing! Luckily my mom was here visiting so she was a big help. In these next two pics, ignore how tired we look--these were taken at about 1:30am after everyone left.
Thank you to everyone that was able to attend--I appreciate it so much! I only wish everyone had been able to make it, not for me the birthday girl, but so that you could have seen what an amazing job my husband did. I can't wait until I turn 40 and see what he does then... Wait...did I just say that???? For now I will stick to enjoying my 30s.
